Firstly, a big thank you to Officers and Committee of East of Scotland Cocker Spaniel Club for the invite to judge bitches at their Championship show and for the gifts presented at the end of show. I thoroughly enjoyed my day with you, the hospitality was top notch from start to end and it felt there was a pleasing and friendly atmosphere throughout the whole show day – well done to all involved on the day. Secondly, to my stewards Mary and Frank for keeping the rings in good running order. Thirdly, thank you to all exhibitors who entered their bitches under my judgement and accepting placements accordingly. It was lovely to have hands on many quality bitches of which in some classes the decision was ‘splitting hairs’ and no doubt places would change on another day.
Overall, temperaments were sound, there was an occasional friendly groan, or perhaps pleasurable moan, when going over but nothing sinister and tail wagging throughout – I guess some of our cockers like to communicate with their owners for reassurance. There were some when moving, carried tails slightly higher than topline, however tail sets were good. Also, I find that running or trotting with cockers on the move is less productive to get the best stride from our cockers – long steady paces or fast walking would be more in tune to your dog/bitch to obtain the correct gait or drive when moving.
My top awards were well deserved on the day, and my first time to award a 3rd CC to a lovely honest cocker girl for her to gain Show Champion title (subject to RKC approval), so it was a very special day all around.

1st Davies’ Annaside Wish Upon A Star – standing alone in this class, just turned12mths black with feminine head and gentle dark eye expression, ample neck and good forechest, well boned legs and tight catlike feet, body in good coat presentation and depth of rib with toned rear quarters, moved out with cocker merriment.
Special Graduate
1st Skinner’s Kaimerlay You Pretty Thing – another standing alone in class - black, nice headed and sweet eye expression, short but ample in neck, she has good boned legs with tidy feet, body with good ribs and rear quarters, moved well, would prefer lower tail carriage.
Special Open
1st Ward’s Wensum Dancing In The Dark, black with sweet feminine head and dark eyes with gentle expression, good reach of neck and forechest, ample boned legs with neat feet, short well ribbed body with toned rear quarters, presented overall in good coat but I would prefer less hair particularly on front and rear quarters to improve her profile, moved ok. 2nd Oswald’s Dunherl Blazing Star, black with proportionate feminine head and dark eyes, well boned legs and tidy feet, ample neck with good forechest, deep ribbed body although slightly heavier over the shoulders to 1, moved ok.

1st Scotland’s Lynwater Bramble Blossom, 10mths orange roan - I’ve admired from ringside and didn’t disappoint with hands on - she has a sweet head of good proportions and pigmentation, good reach of neck and feel of forechest, good upperarm to well boned legs with neat feet, short coupled body with good spring of rib and toned rear quarters which she used to move out with good stride and keeping topline, coat in good condition and well presented to show her conformation – awarded BPB and with co-judge agreement was BPiS. 2nd Torbett’s Kirlinjis Chocolatini, 7mths liver roan with sweet feminine head, ample neck, good forechest and
upper arm leading to ample boned legs and neat feet, short-coupled body with good spring of rib and toned rear quarters that she used to move with drive and topline, in good puppy coat and well presented - her look will improve when puppy coat is over, very nice and look forward to seeing her mature. 3rd Smith’s Jeanidun’s Saugivnon.

1st Hunter’s Cridhemor She Is A Belter, 2.5yrs liver roan with good feminine head and eyes, ample neck and good forechest, well boned legs with neat feet, short-coupled well ribbed body with toned rear quarters, moved well. 2nd Macdonald’s Machunt Caledonian Girl, 1.5yrs blue roan, dark feminine head with dark eyes, good reach of neck and forechest, felt finer on bone than 1, well-trimmed feet, deep ribbed body with muscled rear quarters, moved happily but would prefer lower tail carriage.
Special Graduate
1st Salmon’s Crimicar Blu Diamond JW, blue roan, nicely proportioned feminine head with sweet eye expression, good length of neck on well placed shoulders, good forechest and upper arm to boned legs and neat feet, well ribbed body in lovely coat condition and presented well, good toned rear quarters with a broad derriere, moved out happily with her head held high. 2nd Bradbury & Mather’s Kyna Crystal Clear, blue roan with sweet feminine head of good proportions and nice eye expression, ample neck, good forechest and upperarm to boned legs with neat feet, short coupled and well ribbed body with toned rear quarters, nicely presented in good coat condition, moved ok and kept good topline.

A class whereby the top three could easily change places on another day.1st Fairbairn, Nuttall & Madigan’s Heluin Blue Jay (Imp Rus), blue roan, another one that has taken my eye from ringside at previous shows. She has a lovely proportioned feminine head, good reach of neck on well laid shoulders, good forechest and boned legs with tidy feet, body of good rib and toned rear quarters that she uses to move well with stride at a steady pace and keeping level topline, well presented in good coat condition. 2nd Maclean’s Lynwater Snow Moon, orange roan with sweetest head of good proportions and dark pigmentation, good reach of neck on well placed shoulders, good forechest and upperarm leading to ample boned legs and neat feet, good spring of rib body and toned rear quarters, once settled she moved well with drive, presented in good coat condition. 3rd Torbett’s Kirlinjis Handmade JW ; Res Membrado’s Corralet Afrodita ; VHC Keely & Ekstrand’s Oakbeach Crash Boom Bang Into Alhambaian (Imp Swe)
